Welcome back, Bunnie!

  • Bunnie was on Embedded.fm about a year ago talking about projects.
  • Since then he has been working on/with:
    • Edward Snowden on iPhone detection / Media Lab forbidden research
    • Suing the US gov’t with the EFF over Section 1201 of the DMCA
    • Working on Chibitronics and making electronics more inclusive. Bunnie talked about this more on Ask an engineer (as well as a bunch of other things!)
  • Bunnie has released two books in the past two years
    • Essential guide to electronics in Shenzhen.
    • The Hardware Hacker: Adventures in Making and Breaking Hardware
  • Bunnie recommend working with CrowdSupply. We had Josh on the show on ep 314.
  • He also liked working with professional book publishers at No Starch Press.
  • There is biology stuff at the end of the book!
  • Bunnie also recently talked about “hardware as a cat meme” on the Hackaday hack chat
  • On a similar note, he has written about the Gongkai cell phone culture in China in the past on his blog.
  • This is also the case for how “hoverboard” came into being. He talked about this in an NPR interview.
  • “Childhood as a service”
  • Bunnie regularly works with:
    • Sean “Xobs” Cross – Novena
    • Jie Qi – Chibitronics
    • His hardware team in China
  • Bunnie had a project he decided to dump a year ago, an encrypted keyboard. This was meant to be more secure than “Dirty Dirty Dirty Mobile Phones”
  • Lately Bunnie has been working with the Kinetis chipset.
  • This was first prototyped on the Orchard Badge, which used the KL02.
  • A listener asked about this Dangerous Prototype’s interview with Bunnie where he talked about the availability if schematics.
  • “My life is a series of PhDs”
  • Bunnie is now learning how to code in Rust.
  • You can find Bunnie online at his blog: bunniestudios.com, or on twitter under @bunniestudios
  • His business sites are Kosagi.com and chibitronics.com

We can’t wait to hear what Bunnie is up to next!

Bunnie is by far my favorite guest of the Amp Hour. Such a genuine guy!

Rejoice with me that what remains of those 1964-66 San Fran idealists are being kicked out on their arses.

It may be said that Mr Bunny is aligned with the hippy movement in much the the same way as these hard drinking fellows- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9zcLAUp5E0

Regarding the hacking tours/workshops that Bunnie does in China, any thoughts on the schools that specifically teach how to repair tech gear?

I tried posting this to the Louis Rossman episode, since the school appears to be in Rochester New York, but for some reason comments are disabled?!
