- Akiba just got back from Europe for vacation. Prior to that he was working on a World Bank/Egyptian Government project instrumenting waste systems to prevent dumping.
- The project uses 3G modules, simcom 5320e

- The field radio Akiba favors is a point to point 802.15.4 radio.
- This is instead of using LoRa, which is a 900 Mhz sensor protocol by Semtec
- Ubiquity long range
- The septage project was build on similar technology as the rice field monitoring project Akiba has been working on for a few years now.
- Akiba’s next project will be drones, possibly working with agriculture.
- During reboot of multiple product, Akiba is planning on organizing into product lines

Excellent interview. I have been following akiba since I first ordered a chibi from him, which was my initial exposure into the wonderful world of RF fun.
Without sounding like too much of a fan, i believe Akiba is doing more good with his talents and wisdom than a lot of folks in the scene. he has always dedicated his work and his boards towards helping others, whether mothers, monks, farmers or hackers from the midwest (me). Thanks, Akiba, for all you do. If there was a maker/hacker/whatever ‘we’ call ourselves version of the noble peace prize, I would suggest that it went to you. keep up the excellent work and continue to listen to your compassionate heart and brilliant mind!

Always enjoying hearing about the business side of things, and specific products to check out (letsencrypt, stripe, digital ocean, the E-Myth Revisited book, etc),
Any thoughts on Hologram.io? It’s mean for IoT applications where you need just a little bit of 2G/3G/4G data usage, but haven’t run across anyone that uses it.
BTW, there was a good article on installing Lets Encrypt for those that may need a little help!
