Unfortunately, our guest had to cancel for the evening. Hopefully he can be on sometime in the near future. Thank you to all who posted questions!
- Dave is off to a trade show next week. If you’re in Australia, try and find him at the Electronex show! The Amp Hour is (technically) exhibiting!
[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfFKcz7Z_0Y[/tube] - The Raspberry Pi foundation has had a bit of a run in…with an idiot.
- Wired posted about the upcoming rise in minimum wages in Shenzhen. Will this ultimately affect the electronics ecosystem there?
- Did you know: The NSA has their own chip fab?
- Dave’s USB power supply was finally pushed towards fruition thanks to the Electronex show.
- The board has the OSHW logo on it. We don’t know the current status, but there was a scuffle about the licensing of the logo.
- The 2012 OHS is coming up soon!
- TI just finished up an analog design contest. There are a bunch of cool entries posted on YouTube.
- We need a Kickstarter for an OSHW project for a simple PCB mill or etchant. Something dead simple. Why? Because DIP isn’t coming back. Ever. Get on it, people!
- Perhaps there’s a PCB mill in with the auction of NASA surplus electronics? If anyone goes, let us know!
You can add your out stories or ideas to our subreddit (/r/TheAmpHour) any time. Remember, it could save us in the event of a jettisoned guest! Add away!

What are the other podcasts that you subscribe to?

ZombieTech (http://www.zombietech.tv/) of course! And a german computer podcast as well, but it became a bit boring I think. Looking for a replacement. Any suggestions?

Yeah, that’s the one, I thought it was much cheaper. Very small build area.

An alternative outcome to the wage increase in Shenzhen is that manufacturing will shift to a lower wage location. All the arguments about the time it takes to build a sustainable infrastructure and critical mass was true for China too back in the day. That challenge will still be there for the next country that will take on this challenge.
No doubt, this won’t happen overnight. The difference in labour costs were orders of magnitude apart when electronics manufacturing started to shift to China. It might have to be similarly large before the next migration happens.
Perhaps there’s a good reason China is so interested in developing Africa…

Hilarious show, it was fun to listen to. Thanks.

Enjoyed this episode, if Chris hadn´t of mentioned you were winging it, then I would never of know. Quite a few interesting discussions.
I was only joking last week about the Chris Gammell analog life thing at the beginning, but it is good to have it back.

You mention that a percentage of the folks at the NSA were below the poverty line- I think you’re improperly equating Ft. Meade and the NSA. The NSA campus is on Ft. Meade, but Ft. Meade is also an active US Army base. The only people who live on Ft. Meade are active duty Military.
Most of the folks that work at the NSA are regular (not terribly well paid) government workers that commute from elsewhere. Nobody who works for the US government is really well paid, military or civilian, in comparison to what they would be getting in private industry.
I find it funny when movies/TV refer to “agents” from the NSA. I used to live in the general area and also interviewed with the NSA- the biggest threat most of those guys could do to you (other than the privacy aspects, which I won’t go further with) is pick up their keyboard and smack you with it.

I liked the show w/o a guest this time. The fact that I had time to listen to it means I need to hire someone to do tech work. 🙂
