After a long night of editing audio, Chris went a little insane and started wondering what it would sound like if it was just he and Dave laughing on The Amp Hour. Instead, urged on by Steve Hoefer (@Grathio), Chris instead took individual tracks from each person and compressed out the dead space. This was the (insane) result from Episode #114, including our good friend, Jeff Keyzer.

The title was inspired by Garfield Minus Garfield, the comic where they remove the cat and leave the depressed and somewhat existential Jon Arbuckle.

Ack! Reset!

While I don’t think this will affect listeners as much as it will affect us, the stats on all of our shows reset recently. Specifically on Tuesday. And more specifically, by me. By accident. I felt like an idiot, but there’s not much I can do now.

As I said, it shouldn’t really matter much to listeners, I just thought I would share that there was a reset and that everything else on the site is healthy. As always, if you see issues or know how to improve things on the site, leave a note on the Suggestions Page. Thanks!

A Widlar Poster For The Ages

Listener and WotW alum Jaime (@jpwack) wanted a poster to put up on his friend’s bench. The friend was…how to say it…analog-averse? Here’s the Widlar shot from Paul Rako’s blog with a famous Widlar quote. Jaime also added some good info for context once people walk by and are curious as to why they’re seeing someone flip the bird.

Soon Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Program…

Dave and I missed our usual Monday/Tuesday recording so I thought I’d do a little “snow and tell” (ha!) to give an idea of the stuff I have to wade through on Monday afternoons in order to record for you, our lovely lovely listeners! Hey, I chose to live in Cleveland, so this is what I deserve, right? Well at least I get to experience what’s in the 2nd and 3rd picture, those are pretty fun. Enjoy!

This was the mess I had to blast through to get to up driveway.

Yes, folks, it’s true. People that like electronics also can like dogs (no offense to Darlington and Mosfet)

Chris has a dog that also likes being a snow demon.

Foiled Again!

Here at the Amp Hour we do electronics. We don’t do timezones very well. We’re starting to think that we should make some kind of global clock that always knows the time…or we could just check online. Either way, Dave and I didn’t realize the Australian daylight savings time change didn’t take effect in the US (well, I didn’t even know if Australia observed daylight savings time). As such, I was getting ready to start the show as Dave was heading out the door to work!

Regardless, we didn’t record the show at our usual time and will try again tomorrow. It’s that lovely time of year known as “cold season” (on both sides of the globe) and we’re hoping our voices hold out. We’ll see!

Guess Much?

So Dave and I check traffic sometimes. Lately, we’ve been seeing natural spikes in traffic around Monday or so. You guessed right, we usually record on Monday evenings and try to post that evening. But why not be REALLY sure when we have a new episode available and subscribe to our RSS feed? Just sayin’, it’s waaaaaay easier.

On a related note, if you don’t happen to take my sage advice, try to check back Tuesday, instead of Monday. With the (US) holiday, we won’t get to it until a little later in the week. And of course, if you have any suggestions, be sure to post them on our dedicated page.

As a final note, if you’re in the US (or otherwise), having a BBQ with friends and family this weekend, be sure to mention The Amp Hour to them. I mean, who DOESN’T want to hear about your favorite electronics podcast? We’d appreciate it! Thanks!
