Funny enough I used to duplicate video tapes. Should go down and take a few photos of the computer I used to upgrade the system from the Heath Robinson arrangement of 555 timers it had, to something a little better. Could duplicate up to 6 cassettes one after another unattended, using 10 Panasonic VHS duplicators, with the automatic tape changer that held 5 blank cassettes in the top, and then would automatically load them when the wired remote control called for eject.
1 master, SVHS to get the best quality, and recorded onto standard VHS tape, with stereo sound, though I would say 99% of the time only the mono sound was ever played, mixing the 2 stereo tracks into mono, but actually recorded on the linear audio track as stereo sound, and also on the video section as VHS Stereo as well. Recorders came with it, and it worked with regular tapes perfectly.
Originals were a mix of Betacam SP and Umatic, never had the Betacam player, but still got 2 Umatic boat anchors around. The other 3 older ones went to scrap metal as they stopped offering spares to fix the working ones, though Dexter’sLab in the UK is using one of the drum assemblies as a coaster in his lab.
