- Robert started designing electronics in 2000 post university. His first project was designing an IP telephone using Linux.
- While his paid course is at Fedevel.com, he has free videos on his youtube channel called “matarofe”
- We enjoyed his video on how to work as a freelancer. There are two kinds of freelancer:
- Lifestyle freelancers
- Status seekers
- He later realized 3 things about freelance
- Limited by hours
- Always working for someone else
- Only get to sell work once
- The iMX6 Rex is one of his large projects, though you can view all 4 projects (and associated courses) here.
- Robert just attended PCB west and saw the new active router created by Altium. This was discussed at length on the EEVblog forum.
- When Altium changed how the board outline was done, Robert did a video on how it had changed (instead of updating the private course)
- Robert has been trying out Circuit Studio. Dave likes the pricing.
- The main open design for Fedevel is the OpenRex.
- Dave recently proposed changes to the OSHW logo that he believes will unify the ideas.
- Chris will be at OHS in early October and Robert may join as well!
I hope to take all 3 of Robert’s courses! I’d probably go with the cheaper option ($400 total), as I don’t need to download or keep the videos, just need them to learn the first time!
For Dave’s paid course content, what wordpress plugin will you be using? Not sure if he uses something custom, but pyimagesearch.com is an example of an nicely layed out online course.. wpthemedetector.com couldn’t detect its plugins 🙁
Also, udemy has lots of more advanced courses.. at least 3 altium, 3 xilinx courses, 2 kicad, 10 hdl (system/verilog, vhld, etc), and dozens of electronics, so it’s might be worth having some presence there, if for nothing else to point to your site!
Chris,.haha, buddy you brought me much joy in laughter in this episode. You were very well behaved in listening to Dave during the open source logo discussion. You are a man of great discipline. The few thoughts that escaped your lips gave me quite the chuckle. I have thoroughly enjoy growing ‘old’ with you over the past few years of this podcast. Observing your evolution as an engineer & human being, or at least the fraction of you that this digital experience permits, has constantly well represented the decent & good souled individual that you are.. I’m certain all of that may sound like fluffy & pretentious but there is a certain human element the experience of this podcast that I love, that being the personalities of you & Dave. Okay, i’ll shush up now.
Build yourself a lil qrp rig, Chris. You owe it to yourself if you haven’t yet.

Nice to see Robert on here! I paid for his course 1 and 3 about year ago and they were invaluable in helping me with the otherwise painful learning curve transitioning from Orcad to Altium.
