No, not in boxers, but definitely from Boston! On a $10 internet connection no less! Highway robbery! Next week we’ll do a round up of my trip to ESC Boston and the Open Hardware Summit, but for this week we stayed within the usual tech bounds. The links mentioned are below and as always, comments are welcome and encouraged!

- Can you find Dave in a tinfoil hat?
- Ben Heck’s new show looks great! Nice job!
- Wired has a new (?) show as well. Dave doesn’t like the intro stuff but the content is awesome! This clip is Chris Anderson documenting people from the DIY drones community.
- Speaking of, Quadcopter based control systems keep improving. Amazing!

- Electronica is coming up in Munich, Germany in November. It’s huge! If sponsors want to send an awesome radio duo, inquire within.

- If you can come up with circuit ideas, the bar is pretty low at EDN apparently. We didn’t see much special about a 7 segment hooked up to a LUT, but they paid for the idea!
- We’ll talk more about how to publish your ideas in the 10th episode of The Amp Hour. We can’t believe we’re almost to double digits!

That’s all for now! There was more to the show, including quite a bit of true off-the-cuff content. If we missed any links, feel free to add them in the comments or let us know and we’ll update the main page. Thanks for listening!

Another interesting show guys. You’re right about certain suppliers trying to get free content for their new “community websites” – very annoying. Now it seems they have their suppliers’ staff writing “advertorial” content instead. E.g. http://www.designspark.com/content/small-youre-kidding-right … Tools!

The Ben hack Show is actually a new Revision 3 program http://revision3.com/tbhs The other crowd is just his sponsor. Revision 3 where the guys who brought us “systm” one of the best net shows around at the time. Till Patrick Norton and Rodger Chan started doing software shows. Then Dave Calkins( Mr robotics) appeared as a host. He has this sort of sudo understanding of electronics and that use to peeved me off. (basic stamps “crap”)
His quality will be so high because Revision 3 has a certain criteria for quality.

Oo, thanks for the link Mike! I’ll definitely check it out

Interesting. Never heard of Revision 3.
Penn Jillette is on there!
I always wonder how many people watch sites like this, and whether it’s worth investigating getting my blog on sites like this.

I actually followed Leo Laporte to Revision3 after TechTV died here (in the US). Then found Patrick Norton, also from TechTV, who really does a better show. I think Leo only does radio now.

Chris Gammell says
More than just Leo on the radio, but perhaps his is the only syndicated one. He seems to have a whole crew of people that do various shows, all consumer product based (i.e. one for apple, one for handsets, one for linux, etc). Most of them can be found on iTunes or at http://twit.tv.

Oops .. here’s the right link

It’s pretty PC/Consumer geek oriented, but it’s a fun watch.

Lol John system is what it should have been till Patrick killed it. We even had tech TV here in New Zealand, till it suddenly disappeared. Chris Pirillo From tech TV is still making videos. http://chris.pirillo.com/live/

Dave Its a popular site check out the forum stats Threads: 30,949, Posts: 591,793, Members: 279,855 The owners are the guys behind dig nation. You should check out the old episodes of systm especially the Dave Calkins and Dave Randolph episodes they drove me mad. One day Dave Calkins did a show on microprocessors. He used Basic Stamps(well overpriced) to drive a servo, well over complication the entire process. I got peeved off and posted a picaxe alternative (with the code) to his project, schematic and all on the forum (cost $6) . He wasn’t a happy camper, you should have read the email I received (Picaxe did receive a mention in his next show however).
And a fellow watcher saw my post and ventured into the world of microprocessors(using picaxe) for the first time.

Hi!
I only want to tell you that the motors in a quadcopter are no dc motors. They use brushless motors. The power/weight of a dc-motor is to bad…
Tobias
Chris Gammell says
Thanks Tobias, I always get those confused.

How many of the components on the eBay store “thaishopetc” are questionable? I’ve been tempted to get some of their cheap MOSFETs and other things, but I’m not so sure now. It wouldn’t be for a commercial product, but I still don’t want to be stuck with unreliable stuff.

Chris,
You mentioned digital power in this blog. I’ve attended a digital power class you may like (http://www.ti.com/europe/biricha/). They use TI parts and in the multi day seminar they went over a lot of different supplies and have pre-compiled libraries. I’m not related to these guys in any way except for attending the class.
Great blogs/vblogs, and radio show Dave and Chris. Keep it up.

Sounds great! Thanks for pointing it out.

Ho dear… Dave, why everything has to be a competition for you… numbers, stats, subscribers….
Could you please back off a bit… the rest is doing just fine without constantly reminding their audience about the number of hits their blogs have…
Dave Jones says
Sorry, I don’t remember the reference? (this is an old show)
I like stats, they are fun.
