Is listening to past Amp Hour podcasts back-to-back a bad thing? Because that is what I’ve been doing about a week ago! :S

On the Silego pronunciation: Maybe it stands for Silicon Lego.

So far as I know, all UK Universities have special programmes to assist socially awkward engineering students. It is also something which cannot exist in US colleges. It is self-financing and *very* popular. We call it “cheap beer at the student union”. There is sport, video games, bloke talk, and even those female things. “Wimmin” I think they call them.

Everyone in The Netherlands and probably Germany pronounce ‘Nissan’ the way Dave does. That’s the way just about everyone seem to pronounce it. Except for those silly Japanese people. I’ve never heard ‘Nissaaaaaahn’ before…

The Amp Hour inspired my last trip to CA. Visited the HP Garage, HSC/Halted, Weird stuff, and the computer history museum. worth the trip. I went in May so I could go to SF Bay area MakerFaire.

Regarding the distinction between geeks and nerds, you forgot the link to xkcd: http://xkcd.com/747/
When Dave talked about office politics and not speaking your mind, I instantly thought about the movie Office Space from Mike Judge. If you don’t know it, do yourself a favor and watch it, it’s hilarious.

This was one of my favorite shows. I love the light discussion of ADCs. I also like the idea of a geek cruise. I’ve always thought if I went on a cruise I’d like to bring a handheld VHF high-gain yagi. There’s a picture of a guy standing on deck doing just that.

The relevant lines are about 10 lines up from Fig 2 near the bottom of the page. It’s a fantastic chip but with too many limitations to become ‘Ubiquitous’.That said it proves that there is a market for a small, easily programmed FPGA and no doubt a more user friendly package will pop up sooner or later, whether from GreenPak or An.Other. remains to be seen.

Looks like the “training for socially awkward students” link already got 404’ed. Just to let you know so you might wanna update it.
