Finally listened to these last few podcasts.
Regarding the Star Trek film v tape, they were all shot on film, except for Voyager, hence mentioned can’t get that in high definition. Same I think with a lot of music videos. You’ll find quite a few from the 80s shot on film, and now watching in 4k, whereas the 90s had this whole “new technology shoot on tape for easier editing.”

Several oaths regarding engineering can be found online. I’m mostly familiar with the Archimedean Oath. The Finnish union of professional engineers have made a short translation of it and they include it with the diplomas of all graduated engineers.
Google translated back to English:
“An engineer is involved in creating technology that benefits nature and man. In all his activities, the engineer is protecting plant, animal and human life. The engineer avoids dishonesty and discord and strives to develop into a more skilled problem solver. The engineer considers the direction of development and avoids the realization of harmful goals.”

Hi Dave,
I enjoyed your conversation with Fran.
I have a suggestion though…
I think it would have been very interesting to hear some about Fran’s early years and growing up and schooling and what made them interested and follow the path she did. Early life experiences, etc. (as much as the guest is willing to share) Having followed Fran for many years it would have been interesting to hear what brought her to where she is today. I think this would have been a very interesting opening to the discussion you had. (same with your interview with Big Clive, really wanted to hear more about his personal life’s experience and what influenced him.) Great interviews buy consider talking with guests about their early life and education or experiences and what made them who they are.
Keep up the good work

So it’s been a while since I listened to this `transmission` but a couple of things have played on me mind so out they come:
– content market place: personally I have trouble watching all of the content available all of the time; like I’m unique.
– time sliced web ring: Maybe you (whoever that collection is) could get together and have showcase month in a year, week in a month, each where you put up something you’re extra proud of; you could set yourselves challenges like steve mould and standup maths have done recently.
– constancy of the speed of light – not my bag but remember that there are some physicists out there that have poked around I think this article covers something of it https://www.livescience.com/29111-speed-of-light-not-constant.html
– the end of the universe (not sure you talked about this) – katie mack has written a a laypersons book collecting all the know theories into one spot my favourite is the Quantum death of the universe – as far as I understand it a bubble expanding at the speed of light so you don’t see it coming and you won’t feel a thing. She talks a little about it on the numberphile podcast
Finally – just read the comment above about asking for the life jouney – you could easily riff off of brady haran of numberphile he consistently does this with all his guests
cheers
